Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Dental Surgery Assistant to join our team at our dental practice. As a Dental Surgery Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our dental surgeons during various dental procedures. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in surgeries, maintaining the cleanliness and sterility of the operating room, preparing instruments and materials, and ensuring the comfort and safety of patients throughout their dental appointments.

Responsibilities:

1. Assisting dental Surgeons/Dentists during surgical procedures:

  • Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary instruments, equipment, and materials are readily available.
  • Assist with patient preparation, including explaining the procedure, answering questions, and ensuring their comfort.
  • Hand instruments and materials to the dental surgeon/Dentist during procedures
  • Suction and retract oral tissues to maintain a clear field of view for the surgeon/dentist
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and provide necessary assistance during surgical interventions.

2. Maintaining cleanliness and sterility:

  • Follow strict infection control protocols to maintain a clean and sterile environment in the operating room.
  • Clean and sterilize all surgical instruments and equipment after each procedure.
  • Ensure proper disposal of contaminated materials and waste.

3. Patient care and comfort:

  • Greet and escort patients to the treatment area, ensuring they are comfortable and at ease.
  • Assist in taking dental impressions, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures as required.
  • Provide post-operative care instructions to patients and address any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Ensure patients are comfortable and relaxed during procedures, offering support and reassurance.

4. Administrative tasks:

  • Maintain accurate patient records and update patient charts as necessary.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments, and assist with billing and insurance claims when required.
  • Manage inventory of dental supplies and materials, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.

Qualifications:

1. Education and Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Completion of a Dental Assistant program from an accredited institution.
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant is a plus.

2. Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Dental Surgery Assistant is preferred
  • Familiarity with dental terminology, procedures, and instruments is an asset.

3. Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with patients and dental professionals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of infection control protocols and sterilization techniques.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in dental software systems is desirable.
